Standard Gargoyle Decisions is being described everywhere as a difficult record. But why This isn t exactly avant garde noise people. No matter how all over the place it might sound on a first listen it s just pop music. Every single record even within the Guided by Voices canon is different from the next. You have to find the wavelength of each. Even the most generous of write ups are middling and faint. All this brings up the question of when albums should be reviewed and opinions formed in the first place. We re not necessarily talking about constant spins every day for months on end. But listen to it once then come back to it again later. You re going to find a different and much more enjoyable and engaging record than you remembered. Live blogging is killing our appreciation of a! rt. The world would be a better place if more musicians were more like Pollard I think.
